Pregnancy

Before pregnancy it is essential that you are fit and healthy before you become pregnant this way you give your baby the very best start in life.
The health of both parents is important:
If you are taking hormonal contraceptives, such as the pill, you should change to a barrier method, three months before trying to conceive.
The department of Health recommends that all women planning a pregnancy should take a daily supplement of folic acid before conception ad during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, plus an increase in dietary folate.
Try to aim to be the right weight for your height before to become pregnant, but NO crash diets.
Exercise a few hours a week to help build stamina and tone up the muscles.
Alcohol can inhibit fertility; both parties need to restrict their intake.
Smoking give up now and encourage your partner to do the same.
Avoid taking any medication this includes most health supplements; consult your pharmacist or doctor for advice.
Eat healthy, fruit and vegetables, five or more servings, bread, cereals, pasta, rice and potatoes, lean meat, eggs, fish, nuts, peas and lentils these provide important proteins, dairy products, high in calcium to help with baby's development.

Warnings

Toxoplamosis is an infection caused by a parasite. It is usually harmless in adults. The chances of catching it are about ten per cent for every ten years you live. Follow the following precautions whilst pregnant:
Wear gloves for gardening and wash hands after contact with soil
Do not empty cat litter trays unless wearing gloves
Disinfect cat litter trays with boiling water for five minutes every day
Don't get rid of the cat

Food

Despite the saying remember you are NOT eating for two, the body automatically provides the necessary vitamins and minerals by more efficiently absorbing those nutrients provided - quality not quantity.
Make love at least every other day especially fourteen days before the on set of a period.
After 18 months of trying without success seek medical advice.
During pregnancy
Maintain a healthy diet, take light exercise.
Avoid:
Unpasteurised milk
Pate
Mould ripened and blue veined cheeses
Soft whip ice cream
Pre-cooked poultry
Prepared salads
